Become Bitter About Bitterness

"…make sure no one lives with a root of bitterness sprouting within them which will only cause trouble and poison the hearts of many." (Hebrews 12:15 TPT)

Bitterness is a vexing spiritual cancer that has invaded so many people’s lives in the body of Christ. It can turn anything that is remotely good, into something bad. My wife likes to tease me about my dysfunctional taste palate. I could be eating something that is blatantly sweet, and I’ll swear that I am tasting something sour. The one taste that I can identify clearly because of the way it overwhelms the taste buds is bitterness. You can add a tiny dash of a bitter substance to a liquid and the entire drink will pungently transform. Just like the scripture says, a little lie can permeate our entire belief system (see Galatians 5:9 TPT). Bitterness saturates our entire world. We can easily get consumed with the bitter failures of our past, the envy we have of others, shameful regrets, hurts we hold on to, grudges, resentment, jealousies, disappointments, offenses, and the list goes on and on.

Every negative experience can infect us, where we simply can no longer taste and see that the Lord is good as Psalm 34:8 directs us to, because all we taste is a heart filled with bitterness. Another passage puts it this way:

"Is it possible that fresh and bitter water can flow out of the same spring? So neither can a bitter spring produce fresh water." (James 3:12 TPT)

Refreshing springs of God’s living Word cannot share the same channel with bitter waters without being defiled. So make it a point to get completely free! Ask the Holy Spirit today to flush out any kind of bitterness that is lingering in your heart. Get bitter about your bitterness!
